I Know this is Late, But Hear Me Out

Yes, yes, yes I know what you’re thinking……”You’re not even in school anymore girl….get your shit together!”  Okay, I get that, but I had a lot going on this weekend, I’ve worked late every night this week, and there was no way that this was going to get put together on time.  Epic things happened that deserved time and dedication!

On a totally random side note, I bought a cute keyboard cover for the MacBook….so I’m typing this out all stealthy and silent.  You wouldn’t even know I’m working, it’s amazing!

Okay….so….onto the main event.

LIL B’ CAME TO VISIT AND WE HAD A HOUSE PARTY!

She got here Friday afternoon and it was basically all the food and all the drinks all weekend long.  Sometimes you’ve gotta let it all go I guess.  Friday night we all had dinner at the BFB and Hubby in Law’s house.  Then of course BFB made dipped strawberries….cuz that’s just how we roll…..FANCY!

IMG_8100

I take only the best pictures of my friends….it’s how they know I love them!

Post dinner we played board games….cuz we are adults!  #sorrynotsorry…..but literally, we played Sorry.  Does anyone else remember that game taking hours?!  I think we must have been doing it wrong cuz it took forever!  Also, everyone discovered that I have problems when Skittles are in my presence…..like black tar heroin level addiction problems if they appear within arms reach of me!

Saturday morning we had “Crepe Bar” at the BFB’s….like I’m really not sure you’re really grasping the level of fancy we roll with when we are together!

IMG_8104

This plus bacon and Crepe Bar….what could even go wrong?!  BFB even bought fresh flowers!

We girls went to the mall  after breakfast.  The mall on a Saturday is always a bad idea, but we did get through Sephora, Victoria’s Secret, and Pink.  If you’re wondering why we had to go to both Victoria’s Secret and Pink…..it’s because I’m a diva and insisted on it.  Under roos are cheaper at Pink, and this is important to me since the Scout a Roo continues to eat them given even the smallest oppertunity.  It’s a bit of a problem, but she’s old now so I doubt it’s going to change anytime soon honestly.  Plus side, I guess she is always keeping me in the season’s latest fashions, under roo wise anyway!

After shopping it was time to start cooking.  The cooking started with maybe the best question quote that has ever left Lil B’s mouth…..

Is your tomato sauce…..tomatoey?!  Like does it taste like tomatoes?  Is it like Prego?!”

WE…MADE…SO…MUCH…FOOD!!

I had 7 friends over for Pasta, Pino, and Pizza.  We opened up Maximus, the 5 liter bottle of wine I received for Christmas, and all went to town.  Between us, we drank most of it.  Probably about half of a normal sized bottle was all that remained the next morning when I was cleaning up.  To go along with Maximus….we made way too much food….which is a thing we tend to do every time.

Alright, the run down!

  • Erik’s Homemade Alfredo Sauce with Chicken
  • Red Sauce with Hamburger…..homemade by me!  (Yes, it’s tomatoey)
  • Chicken and Pesto Pizza
  • Pepperoni Pizza with Onions and Green Peppers
  • 2 Pounds of Dry Pasta
  • 1 Large Spaghetti Squash
  • A Whole Loaf of Garlic Bread
  • Gluten Free Pasta for the BFB

After we all got silent and shoved our faces full of yummy Italian and wine, we basically just bummed around, chatted and caught up with each other, and played a couple rounds of Cards Against Humanity.

Yes, you saw that picture right, Maximus required buddy system pours for probably the first half of the bottle.  He was just so heavy, it wasn’t a one man job.  Also, uncorking him wasn’t a one man job either.  Lil B had to help hold the base of the corkscrew while I leveraged the arm up.  Once the cork got started it went alright, but the initial part seemed a little questionable.  There was even a brief discussion of whether or not power tools might be necessary.  We were all maybe a little concerned about the quality of Maximus, but all things considered he wasn’t half bad at all!  The night was another successful dinner and booze party!

Sunday morning I made breakfast and we had our “Girl’s Morning Coffee Sesh”.  Sometimes it’s the littlest things you miss when your besties aren’t around all the time, and for us….morning coffee is that thing.  We also learned that pancakes made with coconut are delicious, but literally pancake flat!  They don’t puff up at all….and yes, before you ask, I did add plenty of baking powder.

After breakfast, we decided to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and go wander the boutiques downtown.  Between breakfast, the bakery, and lunch….we basically ate all morning long….and I’m totally ok with that!

Macaroons and Ham Croissants anyone?!

Jalapeño margaritas at my favorite downtown restaurant with my favorite people!

All in all it was an amazeballs weekend, and given the amount of alcohol consumed over the three days….it’s a Christmas miracle that no one woke up with a hangover!  I’ll take that as a win and get to planning the next bestie weekend.  Actually, the next bestie weekend is gonna be in a couple weeks, except that we will be short the BFB. :/

Home for the Holiday!

I hope that you all are having a wonderful Christmas weekend!  I thought I’d share some of the happenings around my family with you.  Also, I’m sorta taking a cheat week to just post photos!

A Weekend in the West

I made a quick trip out to the Black Hills this weekend. The original plan was to bring the Main Squeeze so that he could meet my West River people, but he had a family commitment and had to stay home.   So, I got a girl’s weekend all to myself with my Lil B complete with shopping, brunch, day drinking, and new hair!!

First things first, I got to town and got to spend several hours with my hair stylist at High Maintenance salon with enough tin foil in my head to channel alien life forms!  I love getting my hair done in Rapid because I’ve been going to see the owner of HM since I was in college. She knows my hair, and she never fails to deliver amazingness.

I tend to have hair style ADHD, but she always can narrow in and find something gives me a change and a boost without being crazy and out of control.

I mean…..saying that I was a bit all over the place this time is maybe an understatement. This is why, if you’re like me, you need a stylist who can wade through all the random ideas and crap you throw at her.

I am now blonde for the summer, with a cute little shadow root so that it grows out nicely. Because let’s be real, despite the fact that the salon I’m ride or die for is called High Maintenance, I’m really pretty low maintenance about keeping my hair in its tippy top condition. I mean, you all read the blog and now I haven’t been out to get my hair done since November. That level of commitment isn’t conducive to fun fashion colors, crazy undercuts, and all the other random things I think I need.

(As I’m writing this though, my hair has possibly become more dry shampoo than hair, and I’m wondering if I can pull it together for brunch in a couple hours without looking like a total slime ball…….hmmm. Well, the blonde does always look less greasy than dark brunette, so I’ve atleast got that going in my favor!!!)

I arrived at Lil B’s cute new house, and we of course proceeded to start drinking……that’s how you make the best plans after all.  I hadn’t eaten, so we eventually decided that we needed to get food.  While Lewie’s is my go to option when I’m in Lead, Friday nights are trivia nights, and we decided it would be too busy.  So, we went somewhere new, The Roundhouse!  Well, it’s not really new at all since it’s an old train building that’s been converted into a gorgeously fancy restaurant, but I had never been there before.

We got to sit in private old rail car, Lil B had prosciutto stuffed duck breast, and I got to drink wine out of what was quite possible the largest wine glass in existence!! I desperately need a set of these glasses for my home life so that I can wander around sipping cheap wine…..in sweat pants…..with my dog while still feeling fancy as fuck!

Honestly, it was like staring into a crystal ball and finding out your future was going to come up wine. That kids, is a future I can be all about!!

image

Look deep into the orb, and see your future!  Hint…..it’s Malbec!

We stopped at the dive bar on the way home but it was dead and we were exploding with food so we came home and passed out talking in the living room. Nothing screams classy like two grown women waking up in a living room.

Saturday morning started as all mornings should with coffee, eggs, and bitching with your bestie about how much you just hate all the random things!  The bitching got better when we decided that 11am was an acceptable time to start drinking…..so I whipped up a pitcher of cheap champagne with the addition of a raspberry lambic.  It’s a fun sorta spin on a mimosa only with the added benefit of not diluting your booze with juice!

image

I’m not sure how people drink this as it is, because it’s really thick and tastes essentially like raspberry syrup. They make other flavors, so if raspberry isn’t your thing you can still rock out any of the flavors with a bottle of the cheapest champagne you can find.

We decided that we needed to get out of the house so we got ready and went shopping in Rapid, because let’s be honest……you can shop and bitch…..it’s like a more intense version of power shopping.

Halfway to Rapid we decided that we should also swing through Prairie Berry Winery for some fun and some free samples. Basically, we spent most of the afternoon shopping and cruising the highways of the Black Hills, and frankly that was ok by me!

We shopped for a bit.  I got some new sandals for vacation with the Main Squeeze, and some snacks for the trip down to the winery. The winery was super busy, much more so then the last time I was there with Momm and my sister, but we did eventually squeeze ourselves into the bar for our samples. I have to say I was slightly disappointed by the size of the wine glasses…I guess once you’ve had the best everything else is just sad haha!

We purchased some wine and both somewhat accidentally got signed up for their autoshipments of wine. Oopsy, well I can pick up my wine at their East River location, and more wine never hurt anyone so we will see how this turns out.  See….I need those huge glasses so that I can drink my autoship wine more effectively!!!!

After the winery, we finally hit up Lewie’s so I could get my bacon cheeseburger with jalapeños fix! Once again exploding with food, Lil B and I headed home for some Netflix and a couple drinks. This time though, we did both actually make it through the first show…..the second one, not so much!

image

This morning I decided against a shower, but I did throw on a sundress and head back to Rapid for brunch with my favorite Russian and her new hubby!  It was delicious, amazeballs, and so good to see them again.  I feel like I just don’t get enough of these people that I got so used to seeing everyday in college.  The whole situation was so nice that I totally forgot to grab my credit card after I paid.  Luckily, I discovered the problem when I arrived at Philly Ted’s for my quota of cheesesteaks to bring home and freeze.  A quick trip back to Tally’s Silver Spoon got me my credit card back, and I was ready to hit the road home.

All in all, it was an amazing trip, and I can’t wait till I can find a weekend to head back, and hopefully bring the Main Squeeze along.  Now kids, I’m home….and it’s time to wash my hair!

Arts and Crafts, Fireball, Hangovers, and Besties for Life

I meant to get this posted sooner, but it’s been a busy week.  I spent most of the week in Omaha at a lab managers conference I wasn’t actually supposed to be at.  But, everyone else from work was going, so I got to tag along like the ugly stepchild and drink unlimited coffee and Diet Coke.  The only perk was that I got to spend Monday night with my Chananana eating sushi, drinking beer, and talking about boys.  It was perfect!

I mean, I guess in the grand scheme of life it wasn’t the worst of times, but I did have legitimate work to be doing in the lab which I obviously did not get done……

However, before rolling out into Cornhusker territory I spent the weekend with the besties!  Lil B came over from the West side to visit, and we had some epic adventures.  Granted, we had some epic plans that didn’t get accomplished, but anytime spend with friends is time well spent.

THURSDAY

The Cowboy said this looked like trouble....I don't think he has any idea!

The Cowboy said this looked like trouble….I don’t think he has any idea!

It’s always ideal when you can start your weekend off on a Thursday night with $2 wine night at your favorite bar!!!  We then decided that a Walmart run was in order because we had crafts to do and more wine to be drinking!  I would like to point out that taking my two slightly tipsy besties to Walmart was a bit like herding cats…..and there may have been several jokes made about Lil B’s melons…….yup…..we are those girls.  Hide yo kids, hide yo husbands!!!!!!!

IMG_4901

Rolling around town with these two weirdos!

We may or may not have tried to con the Hubby in Law into watching Magic Mike XXL with us….it didn’t really work.

On a side note, could we discuss that Magic Mike XXL is too random to even exist?!?!  I mean the first Magic Mike was weird….but acceptable.  There was an actual plot line and you felt like something was actually happening.  The second one is just random, and then when it finally starts to get good….it just ends!!!!  Like here’s a mostly naked Channing Tatum, now goodbye! Granted……..I did have to take a hangover nap Saturday morning during part of the middle section, but the besties assured me I didn’t miss much.

We all went to bed without much incident, and I did manage to scrounge up enough blankets so that Lil B didn’t freeze to death in my house!

FRIDAY

I didn’t work Friday since Lil B was here and the Bitch Faced Bestie (Triple B) gets off around noon.  Lil B and I made breakfast and did manicures while we waited for lunch time.  Triple B and the Hubby in Law came over after she got off work, and I made spicy fish tacos with slaw and avocado cream for lunch.  (I should probably throw that recipe up on the blog….someone remind me!) The Hubby went to work and we ran to the mall because underwear was on sale…..and you can’t waste a sale on underroos when your dog eats them the way mine does!  Post shopping it was shower time followed by wine and crafts!

I did have grand plans to make rings, and so we bought wire on Thursday night.  Unfortunately, the wire we settled on was too thick.  Triple B did manage to create a cute squiggle ring, but I couldn’t get my “Bitch Fuck Off” rings accomplished.  Oh well, another day I’ll try again.

IMG_4909

It’s gonna have to be another day another craft for this little project I guess.  I really think the trio of “Bitch Fuck Off” would be really helpful for nights I go out….or trips to Walmart…..life in general really!

We did manage to accomplish making our matching bestie sweatshirts.  Triple B found a Pintrest hack for making your own screen printed shirts.  It is a bit labor intensive, however I think wine really takes the edge off that.  It would be less labor intensive if everyone pulled their own weight….cough cough Lil B……!!!  However, some of us are more crafty than others of us apparently.  Triple B showed off her pro level skills by cutting out two of the stencils in the time it took me to cut out one…..

  • The Things You Will Need
  • Sweatshirt or shirt of choice
  • Acrylic paint
  • Sponge brush
  • Freezer Paper
  • Printer
  • Scissors and a knife
  • Tape
  • Pen or Sharpie
  • WINE!!!!!!!!!!!
  1. Type the saying or picture into Word and blow it up to size.  Once you’ve got what you want, just print the documents.  This took us a couple trials to get the size right, but it’s not a difficult process.
  2. Align all your words in the position you want and tape them down onto your work surface.
  3. Trace the words onto a sheet of freezer paper, making sure that the waxy side of the freezer paper is down.
  4. After you get done tracing, you’ll need to cut out the words.  This is by far the worst and longest part of the process……..just keep drinking your wine and you’ll make it through.  Be sure to save all the middles of your letters….so your letters will have their holes if that makes sense.
  5. Lay out your shirt and gently iron on the template.  If it isn’t positioned just right, or if one of the middles moves, just peel it up, reposition, and iron down again.  We also put a piece of freezer paper inside the shirts in case the paint bleeds through.
  6. Sponge the paint onto the stencil making sure to cover everything well.
  7. Carefully peel off the stencil….it won’t come all in one chunk….and pick out the middle of the letters.  Try and avoid getting paint onto any parts of the shirt that aren’t supposed to have paint.
  8. Let shirts dry undisturbed over night and you’re all set to rock your new creation!

After we finished making the three shirts, we headed out to the bar.  We ended up not staying very long, but that was long enough to put away some fireball and get hit on by some random old guys who may or may not have been married and who may or may not have been at the bar with women other than their wives……..

We did manage to order food on the way out of the bar, however Lil B ate all mine before we managed to get home. :/  This caused less than stellar results for some of us the next morning…..

SATURDAY

You'll notice the only perky one is the one who got the food!

You’ll notice the only perky one is the one who got the food!

Eventually, I did manage to choke down some toast, and rallied for the end of Magic Mike XXL….. Again, apparently I didn’t miss much in the middle section while I was sleeping off the pukiness.  I think Lil B and Triple B made eggs….but I was in bed so I’m not entirely sure.  I do think the mark of true friendship is when your friends can forage in your kitchen and no one thinks it’s weird that you’re not there!

Girls who veg together stay together!

Girls who veg together stay together!

We spent the rest of Saturday at Triple B’s playing Star Wars Monopoly.  The Hubby in Law made us fancy steak and shrimp dinner, and we all just hung out and watched movies.  We had originally had plans of going downtown to one of the bars for a neon dance party, however the residual hangovers were just too much to rally from.  Also the mere thought of going downtown seems exhausting.  It’s expensive, far away, it seems like that’s were the annoying Bro type dudes would hang out…..just generally not really my cup o’ tea.

SUNDAY

Sadly, Lil B had to leave us Sunday morning, but there was time for one more breakfast and coffee.  I know it’s hard for her because Triple B and I are both here now and she’s sorta out West all by herself.  It’s always sad to see her go, but anymore, our livers can only take so much of each other at one time.  I’m actually headed out the direction in a couple weeks so I’ll see her again soon.  Until then, there’s always awkward and strange group texts to get us through.  Seriously, if you read our group chats sometimes you’d think we didn’t get along…..you’d also think we were probably drunk all the time….we aren’t, that’s just how we act!

Crazy Pills: A Synopsis of My Week

This week has been nutz……I’m busy at work, and I’ll be gone for work basically all of next week.  This is less than ideal because I actually have work that needs to be done in the lab!  This isn’t always the case, but I didn’t get a say in when the laboratory conference was scheduled….so plants are just gonna have to wait on data I guess.

Yesterday, in an effort to get as much done as possible I spent basically the entire day in the lab.  Usually I enjoy this, but everyone else was in the lab too and my phone battery died so I had to spend several hours without any tunes.  By the end of the day, I was exhausted and felt like I had been on crazy pills all day.  Then it was home to clean and do homework…..oh, the never ending joys of trying to adult.

Bright side is….LIL B IS COMING TO VISIT!!!!!!!!!!!!  Actually, she should arrive in about an hour.  So, a three day weekend and some fun shenanigans are in store for me!!!!!!!  I honestly don’t really know what we are doing, and frankly I don’t care.  There will be friends and wine….I don’t really care what happens after that.

I feel like I’ve been oddly adult this week.  Sometimes stress causes me to actually motivate and get stuff done!  I finally got around to working on scheduling my PEO chapter’s Christmas party, and I submitted my program of study for graduate school.  Assuming it’s approved…..IDK why it wouldn’t be….I’ll be done with grad school after the spring semester.  It’s about time!
